Why Bailey?

Bailey seemed to be an ideal match for Maya considering genetic clearances, OFA clearances, COI, temperament, size, and structure. Bailey has cleared his recommended DNA/genetics, and cleared his OFA heart and eyes. He is from a strong bloodline of champions with good hips and elbows. For the record, Maya's parents have hips and elbows rated by OFA as Good. Maya and Bailey have both cleared the recommended genetics testing. Their clear status means that their puppies cannot aquire nor pass down to their offspring: prcd-PRA, PRA1, PRA2, nor ichthyosis (which are eye and skin disorders, common to Golden Retrievers). Bailey's gentle, confident, cooperative nature makes him a joy to be around. He is beautiful inside and out. His blockier face and structure compliment Maya's taller, leaner face and structure. They are well matched in size & weight with Bailey weighing 72 pounds and Maya 56. Their individual COI's are low, and together, according to k9data.com test breed, their litter has a COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) of 0.00% which is absolutely ideal, as inbreeding is linked to a host of problems. In his article entitled "Population Genetics In Practice; Principles For The Breeder", J. Jeffrey Bragg states "Probably anything greater than 5% (COI) constitutes a threat to genetic health, yet to set the bar at 5% would be virtually impossible in many breeds." You can read his article about the importance & considerations of COI here: http://www.seppalakennels.com/articles/population-genetics-in-practice.htm Maya and Bailey both exceed the goal COI individually and together. Bailey is well matched for Maya considering genetic clearances, OFA clearances, COI, temperament, size, and structure.
