OUR MISSION

Through heavy research and careful selection, Bennett Goldens strives to reproduce and train desirable qualities in Golden Retrievers while actively seeking to decrease the incidence of genetic and structural problems common to this breed.  We carefully consider pedigrees, Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) percentages, genetic screening results, & PennHip and/or OFA results at recommended ages in addition to parental structure, temperament and characteristics.  COI is calculated through Test Breedings via K9data.com.  The following buttons give simple explanations as to why COI and genetics are important.

OUR FOCUS

Our focus is on promoting health, longevity, and well-mannered dogs of sound temperament.  We believe these foci best prime all dogs whether they go on to be gun dogs, service dogs, champion competition dogs, or simply sound companions.  Their beauty is a bonus.  Daily work goes into our areas of focus.  Our observation, handling and training starts from day one and continues until each puppy is with it's adoptive family.

AKC

GLORIA AND MONTY'S LITTER IS REGISTERED WITH THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB, AND INDIVIDUAL PUPPY REGISTRATIONS ARE ALREADY PAID BY BENNETT GOLDENS.  OWNERS SIMPLY NEED TO CREATE A UNIQUE AKC NAME FOR THEIR PUPPY AND SUBMIT IT AFTER THEIR PUPPY IS BROUGHT HOME.

Gloria and Monty Litter are ringing in the New Year with a fabulous delivery on New Year's Eve!

Sweet Family Dogs

Gloria and Monty were bred for home pets and potential therapy dogs.  Gloria is slim, athletic, and moderate to high energy.  Monty is a big, mellow, sweet demeanored family dog.  They have a low COI (9 generation COI of 0.16% according to K9data.com which looks at generations and numbers; and a 15%COI according to Embark which looks at actual genetic markers - 15% is still low for Goldens) and both completed and passed recommended PennHip/OFA's.  We are excited about the ways in which these puppies will be a blessing to their families.

Thoughtfully bred to reduce problems common to Goldens

Both Gloria and Monty have completed all testing recommended by the Golden Retriever Club of America, and have passed with flying colors.  Both Gloria and Monty have passed their OFA heart, eye, and elbow exams.  Gloria's hips were rated as good and Monty's hips had a Distraction Index of 31, putting him in the top 5% tightest hips in Golden Retrievers, which we would expect to be rated as Excellent.  Both Gloria and Monty are genetically clear with recommended screenings, except Monty is a carrier of Icthyosis 1.  Because Gloria is genetically clear of ichthyosis 1, some of their puppies should be genetically clear of ichthyosis 1, while others will inherit the gene from Monty and be carriers too; but none of them should have the active problem.  I just found out that there is an ichthyosis 2 that has only been tested for since 2022; Embark did not have the capability to test for it when our dogs were tested, so their genetic makeup regarding ichthyosis 2 is unknown at this time.  Ichthyosis is one of the lesser concerning issues common to Golden's, as the other recommended screenings are for problems that cause lameness, early blindness, early death, etc.   The Gloria and Monty litter are a part of purposeful breeding to help reduce and weed out terrible common problems in Goldens.

MISSION AHEAD

Though adding a pet can change lives and it’s a joy to place dogs in pet homes, one really special thing about the 2020 litter are the working dog prospects. Several owners have goals for service dog, therapy dog, or facility dog work. If all goes well, these dogs will be serving mobility impaired, at-risk children, elderly, hospitals, juvenile prison, and wounded veterans, many with PTSD. To all of you I humbly thank you for your servant-minded hearts!  Photo by IG#squier4photos.
