So day four of life, we started trimming puppy nails. Why???? With our puppies gaining substantial weight every day, everything is growing, including their nails! They are born with formed, significantly sharp nails as you can see in this picture of one of our guys at one day of life.
And every day they seem to grow a little longer and a little sharper! Those little nails started scraping Mom's belly every time they nursed, and provided the potential for the puppies to scratch each other. So.... the painstaking work of trimming 198 nails began. I got 10 nails done on one puppy that day and then it took me a week later to complete them all! Im getting started all over again today. The benefits of doing the work of nail trimming early are: greater comfort to our SuperMom Dog, and our puppies getting used to the sensation and discipline of nail trimming. In theory this may make it easier on their adoptive families in the future at nail trimming time. Another gift form our family to yours!
